Welcome to the 'online painting' of the Limited Edition Voyager plastic model kit
The Limited Edition issue of the Intrepid Class Starship featured all NEW decals, corrected Saucer top half, clear Deflector Amp Grid, and Hanger Bay with Shuttle. Also included, was a complete step by step assembly and detailing manual with tips on super detailing and ACCURATE painting! Shown here, is the box cover model being painted with the colors that are used in the assembly manual. Just click on any of the thumbnails below for a full size image.

The kit is fully assembled, windows masked, primered and the base coat of Light Ghost Gray FS36375 (ALL paints listed here, and on the instruction booklet are Testor's Model Master paints)
An index card is positioned against the hull. Dark Ghost Gray FS36320 is lightly spray misted past the card. Repositioning the card in line with the scribed defensive grid, duplicates the 'aztec' patterning on the hull.
The 'aztec' weathering is applied all over the hull, in line with the scribed defensive grid, and at right angles to the grids.
The completed 'aztec' weathering.
The secondary hull Consumable Resupply Connectors, and topside engineering defensive grids are masked off and sprayed Light Sea Gray FS36307.
Masking materials are removed and the base hull color is lightly misted over the new paint to tone down the Light Sea Gray.
The bottomside primary defensive grids are masked and painted Dark Ghost Gray FS36320.
The dark gray areas are 'weathered' like the hull, but with Light Ghost Gray, the hull color.
The Auxillary Deflector Grid, and Manuvering Thrusters are masked and painted with a mix of 50% International Orange and 50% Light Ghost Gray. The Auxillary Deflector Grid is now a decal, but for the prototype model it had to be painted on. The Aft EVA hatch is masked and misted with RAL 7027 Afrika Dunkelgrau.
The areas are unmasked.
The lateral Sensor Arrays and Upper Sensor Platforms are masked and painted RLM 81 Braunviolett.
The Top of the Main Hull showing the airbrushed paneling effect.
The underside of the Primary Hull. Note dark AND light airbrushed paneling!
A template was cut for painting the lifeboats with a custom mixed color. The new decal sheet included these complete lifeboats.
All lifeboats are painted on, completing all airbrush work.
Afrika Dunkelgrau is 'drybrushed' onto the sensor platforms highlighting all raised detail.
Red, Blue, Copper, and Gold details are painted in.
Phaser Banks are painted Testor's Flat Tan, Bridge structures are painted Model Master Tan FS20400, Thruster indents Braunviolett, Thruster Ribs MM Tan, Torpedo Tubes 50% MM Tan, 50% White, Warp Nacelle Bussard Collectors Braunviolett, Gas Filters Testor's Chrome Yellow, Warp Grills Copper, and Hanger Bay bulkhead Afrika Dunkelgrau, completing all detail painting.
The Deflector Amp Grid shown here lit.
And finally, the Hanger Bay lit. (Please note: NO lighting is included with this kit. You will have to do that on your own!)
The entire model is sprayed with a Gloss finish for decal application. The new decals are being applied.
The top half is fully decaled.
The bottom half, nacelles, and sides are fully decaled.
After all decals are applied, a matte finish was applied to entire model. The base color of Light Ghost Gray was then lightly misted on over the decals. The Deflector Emittor was then attached.
After matte finish was fully dried, windows are drawn on the upper Primary Hull with a number 3B soft lead pencil.
The same pencil being applied to the top of the Secondary Hull.
After all windows were penciled in, another coat of matte finish was applied. Weathering was then added with ground up colored pastel chalk and sealed up with the final coat of matte finish completing the box and instruction manual model!
