Here's a pic I thought was nice - I was working on puttying the shuttle bay, getting all the seams closed so the bay light doesn't show through where it shouldn't.

I used clear cement to fill the larger holes, because it wasn't feasible to use putty as the space was too small.  I propped up the ship on a flower vase so the glue would dry evenly in the gaps and not run south due to gravity.

Recently, I've been working on masking in preparation for application of a primer.  I've learned that using a primer is most important so that you can determine what putty / hull work needs to be done before application of the real colors.

You may recall that I was pretty excited about the use of caulk as a mask - well, I've since learned that caulk has some limitations:

  • You can only get it off when applied to perfectly smooth (non-porous) surfaces

  • Caulk that has gone into hard to reach places (needle point small) stays there

It worked very well on the Enterprise-D plastic, but the parts of the Voyager are much smaller and while dental picks are phenomenally handy even they can't reach some of the places the caulk went.

Therefore, I've used artist's 3mm masking tape (which I purchased at an art store) instead (after spending a couple days cleaning out the caulk).

I intend to use caulk on the bay windows, however.
