I've finished masking the ship - I used caulk for the windows, and it was much like getting bubble-gum to stay where you want it to with a toothpick.  :)  I've also applied liquid mask (multiple coats) to the running lights.

The deflector dish was masked by using large model masking tape, and putting caulk on the edges because of the complex shape.

I used plexiglass (Lucite) to create a six-sided transparent case.  It turned out well, and I'm very excited about it!

Not having large-scale equipment, I sandwiched the plexiglass between sheets of plywood, measured the cutting line, and used a Dremel tool's cutting attachment to score the top, then slowly snapped the cut piece.  I then used the Dremel tool's sanding and buffing attachment to get the edges workable.

     They're not perfect, but they're workable.  :)

The next steps is to get a card table in the basement set up, clean up the ship with a pad soaked in rubbing alchohol, and apply the first coat of primer.

Personally, I think the pictures below are downright inspiring. :)
