I've been working on the putty job for
the auxiliary deflector, learned that wetting fine sandpaper makes
for a perfectly smooth surface.
I was eager to install the port and
starboard LEDs (breaking my written process, tsk..), and did so a
bit too early so they've been in my way as I orient the model for my
sanding the putty and masking the windows. The cement I've
been using doesn't bond to the LED plastic, so it's perfectly
useless. It takes about four hours before it's totally
dry, and I can remove the LED. I think I will encase the thing
in the cement - I don't want to use anything else for fear of
damaging the LED or the hull.
I have also masked the windows by
putting some slits of tracing paper on the tape, then taping them in
front of the window. I'll have to watch how I paint the
insides so as not to get paint between the paper and muck up the
window.
