I've finished all the fibre, masking of the windows and confirmed that the two pieces fit together correctly.

In order to place the larger diameter fibre so that it's flat, I learned to apply heat to the back of the fibre when you bend it, such that you put the fibre over the heat source (I used a soldering iron, the candle bent it too quickly) and slowly bend it over.  By heating the back of the joint you get a smoother bend.

I think that using the .6 diameter fibre instead of LEDs has worked out extremely well.  The scale is excellent and working with it in heat-shrink tubing is pretty easy.

I have painted the insides black after masking off the edges (so as not to interfere with gluing the two parts together).  I don't think it's necessary to paint the inside silver afterwards, as in retrospect I think it better to not have light bouncing around.

I've learned that using tape and paper like I did for the internal windows is kinda risky, because the airbrush applies pressure to the surface and could cause the mask to move.

When the paint dries the next step is to install the white LEDs and get them wired up, then put the halves together and move on to the next part of the model.
