I have broken down the painting into seven phases after the primary and secondary hull painting, which are roughly:
  1. Top spine and topside warp pylons
  2. Torpedo bay, bridge elevators, bottom of warp pylons, landing bay doors
  3. Sensor arrays
  4. Phaser strips and bridge / topside details
  5. Maneuvering thrusters and deflector arrays
  6. Topside detailing
  7. Sealing, prep for decals

I felt it necessary to break things down into sections so that I may better isolate the colors and play with them prior to painting to ensure all the colors blend well (not taking instructions on their word).  For example, they wanted me to paint the phaser strips Tan, but that's way too bright with the over all colors on the ship, so I'm going to change it (Tom Sasser himself said he liked to "add a little brown" - I think I'll just do that...).

At left is a picture of the color testing I've done, playing with substitutions and mixing until the colors seem right.  So far, I think the only one that needs to be changed is the color for the phaser strips.  The colors for the deflector arrays and thrusters need to be mixed according to the directions, so when I get to that step I need to play with those too.

At this point I'm finished with phase 1, working on 2.
